The best Alaska log cabin rentals in Wasilla are a VRBO rental, owned by my buddy Ben Sanderlin. These vacation rentals are two log cabins, carefully and thoughtfully designed and built by Ben himself. 

Less than 5 miles from Wasilla, these cabins will feel a world away in your own little Alaskan oasis.

Where are the Cabins Located?

These cabin rentals are located in a quiet neighborhood overlooking a ravine towards Wasilla, with Hatcher Pass as a backdrop off of Fairview Loop. You can access it from two different directions, depending on where you are coming from.

If you are already in Wasilla, you’ll probably want to access Fairview Loop from Knik Goose Bay Rd. If you are coming from Palmer or Anchorage, taking the exit for Fairview Loop off of the Parks Highway will be better. Use Google maps to direct you for the most efficient way.

What are the Luxury Cabins Like?

Both log cabins have two bedrooms, enough room for four adults. While either cabin is nearly identical, there will be certain nuances that will differ (like wall stain color and décor), so just compare the two and see which one calls to you more.

As you pull into the gravel driveway you’ll see the two log cabins on the left and a covered pavilion on the right. If you booked Cabin 1, the first cabin you see is yours. The cabin behind that is Cabin 2. Do note that the cabins aren’t numbered on the outside, but following logic it’s easy to figure out.

Walk up a couple of steps and enter into your luxury cabin rental.

You’ll immediately notice how bright and cozy the cabin is. Sometimes log cabins can feel a bit dark and gloomy but not these! They exude joy!

Everything inside is a welcoming light wood color, from the walls to the floors to the cabinets. Taxidermied Alaskan animals decorated the cabin walls, bringing the wild outdoors of Alaska indoors.

As you enter, there is a mini entryway with a cubby space on the left to hang your jackets and place your shoes. 

The bathroom is the first door on the left with a washer and dryer and lots of counter space on the vanity sink.

The second door on the left is the first of two bedrooms with a comfortably firm memory foam queen bed, nightstands, and own private tv. There is also ample closet space for storage and hangers for clothes.

The living room, dining area, and kitchen are all one open-concept room. 

A large sectional couch hugs one corner of the room facing a small tv that sits quietly under the stairs. The tv is connected to the free wifi and has access to all your streaming services with your own login.

A nice, full-sized round dining table for four sits next to the couch, great for mealtime and games. 

Please note: Cabin 1 has an office corner space and chair. Cabin 2 does not have this feature. 

Kitty-corner from the couch is the full kitchen area. The light wood cabinets are contrasted with handmade concrete countertops. There’s no worry about nicking these or setting a hot pot on top. There’s a large gas stove for cooking full meals or just boiling water in the teapot provided.

Up the semi-steep timber framed staircase you’ll find a loft with another memory foam queen  bed, nightstands on either side, and a reading chair. The railing overlooks the common area below.

But the special thing up here is a little nook to the left with a large beanbag, perfect for cozying up with a book.

Please note: this second bedroom is in an open loft and does not have doors for privacy.

Outside, a fort-like log fence keeps the property private from the neighbors. 

The communal covered pavilion has patio lounge chairs around a steel, moose-scene fire pit. Firewood is supplied and plentiful. A picnic table sits adjacent to the pavilion, but is not covered.

Also under the pavilion is a propane barbeque for roasting any freshly caught Alaskan salmon or trout you may have gotten that day or maybe roasting a giant Alaskan zucchini.

What are the Cabin Amenities?

You won’t be lacking anything in these cabins; Ben has carefully thought of everything. 

To start, the cabins have a keyless entry, so you can arrive anytime after check-in time, no need to coordinate a meet-up time to be let in.

The kitchen is fully stocked with pots, pans, dinnerware, and silverware.

A Keurig sits on the counter with coffee pods. Tea and cocoa are also provided, just heat your water in the teapot on the stove. For breakfast, mini boxes of cereal are available along with milk in the fridge.

Spices, including salt and pepper, are provided, so you can cook your homemade meal with flavor. 

Besides having the luxury of washer and dryer in the cabin, Tidepod laundry detergent is also provided, so you don’t have to buy a full sized box for one or two loads. 

All or most of the electrical outlets throughout the cabin have either a built-in nightlight with an adjustable brightness setting or has a dual regular socket and USB port, to make charging cell phones easier.

In the kitchen, besides the food amenities listed above, you’ll also find a complimentary s’mores kit to use around the firepit outside.

With Wasilla only about 5 miles away, you have easy access to all the city’s amenities: gas, grocery and retail stores, restaurants, etc.

Perfect Start – two words: Redbull Smoothie, an Aurora Borealis of colors with a secret powder base blended into the thickest, smoothest drink.

Krazy Moose Subs – located in historic Teeland’s Country Store and serving various subs, soups, and salads
Bearpaw River Brewing Company – craft beers and pizza
Chepo’s Mexican Restaurant – quality Mexican cuisine, delicious margaritas, and exceptional customer service

These cabins are also a great base for day trips around the Matanuska-Susitna Valley.

Wasilla – the bustling heart of the Matanuska Valley is Wasilla, with all the amenities a town could ask for. It is home of the Iditarod Headquarters, has historical museums to visit, and views for days.

Palmer – take a trip to colonial Palmer, wandering the streets and popping into boutique shops and cozy cafes. Or make friends with animals at the Musk Ox Farm or Reindeer Farm. Hike the Butte or Lazy Mountain. 

Hatcher Pass – a phenomenal trip into the mountains is through Hatcher Pass, with endless hiking in the tundra, making you feel transported to Middle Earth. On trail or off trail you’ll find soft arctic moss, boulder hopping, lakes, marmots, views for days, and a gold mine ghost town. 

Talkeetna – if you don’t plan on going all the way to Denali National Park, taking a day trip to Talkeetna is a fun 1.5hr drive. This historic town is a cute stop for souvenir shopping, beer tasting, and exploring the Susitna River. Keep an eye out for the mayor, Denali the cat.
