ALASKA

Alaska is where I grew up. I lived almost half my life in the Matanuska Valley, just 45 miles north of Anchorage. And no, you could not see Russia from my house! ๐Ÿ˜

Alaska is a breed all its own. They keep a highway sign updated letting you know how many moose have been killed by car that year. You get lots done in the summer as it stays light late making you think it’s 5pm only to find out it’s 10pm. Spring and Autumn are only a couple of weeks long. And Moose’s Tooth Pizza is the best pizza in the country and you can’t convince me otherwise haha!

One of my all-time favorite drives is the Seward Highway between Anchorage and Girdwood. You can’t beat the view of Cook Inlet and the outlining mountains. It’s fun keeping a constant eye out for mountain sheep or beluga whales.

Hatcher Pass is the best place to hike as it looks like Middle Earth in the summer and in the winter like the mountain the Huns died on in Mulan. It’s crazy being able to drive within the mountain range and hike almost any peak that sparks your interest.

I might have left Alaska because of the long, cold winters but it’s still home. And when I go back to visit I’m always impressed with the beauty that I took for granted.
